How It Works

Activase (alteplase) is a tissue plasminogen activator (tPA) used to treat acute ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction (heart attack), and pulmonary embolism. It works by converting plasminogen to plasmin, an enzyme that breaks down clots. By promoting the dissolution of clots, Activase helps to restore blood flow to the affected areas, reducing damage and improving outcomes in acute thrombotic events.

• Recent (within 3 months) intracranial or intraspinal surgery or serious head trauma
• Known bleeding diathesis
• Severe uncontrolled hypertension
• Current use of anticoagulants with an elevated INR
