Description
How it Works
Alogliptin is an oral medication used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by inhibiting the enzyme dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4). DPP-4 breaks down incretin hormones, which are released after eating and increase insulin secretion from the pancreas. By inhibiting DPP-4, alogliptin increases the levels of incretin hormones, thereby enhancing insulin release in response to meals and decreasing the amount of glucose produced by the liver. This helps lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.Side Effects
