Description
Biktarvy is a combination medication containing three active ingredients: bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide. Bictegravir is an integrase strand transfer inhibitor (INSTI) that prevents the integration of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) genetic material into the DNA of human immune cells. Emtricitabine and tenofovir alafenamide are nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitors (NRTIs) that work by blocking the action of the reverse transcriptase enzyme, which is necessary for HIV replication. Together, these three drugs help to reduce the viral load and slow down the progression of HIV infection.
