Description
How it Works:
Bosulif inhibits the activity of specific proteins known as tyrosine kinases. These proteins are involved in the signaling pathways that control cell growth and division. In chronic myeloid leukemia (CML), there is a genetic mutation that leads to the overactivation of a tyrosine kinase called BCR-ABL. This abnormal protein drives the uncontrolled growth of cancer cells. Bosulif specifically targets and blocks the activity of BCR-ABL, thereby reducing the growth and proliferation of cancer cells.
Side Effects:
– Nausea
– Diarrhea
– Fatigue
– Rash
– Abdominal pain
– Headache
– Low blood cell counts (anemia, neutropenia, thrombocytopenia)
– Elevated liver enzymes
Indications:
Bosulif is indicated for the treatment of adult patients with chronic, accelerated, or blast phase Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (Ph+ CML) who are resistant or intolerant to prior therapy.
Contraindications:
Bosulif should not be used in individuals who:
