Description
Cerdelga is an oral medication containing 84 mg of eliglustat per capsule. It is used for the long-term treatment of adults with Gaucher disease type 1, a genetic disorder resulting in the accumulation of certain fatty substances in various organs. Cerdelga is designed to reduce the production of glucosylceramide, the fatty substance that builds up in Gaucher disease.
How It Works
Cerdelga (eliglustat) works by inhibiting the enzyme glucosylceramide synthase. This enzyme is responsible for the production of glucosylceramide, a lipid that accumulates in the cells of patients with Gaucher disease. By reducing the production of glucosylceramide, Cerdelga helps to prevent the buildup of fatty substances in the spleen, liver, and bone marrow, thereby alleviating the symptoms of Gaucher disease.Side Effects

Indications

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to eliglustat or any of its components
- Moderate to severe hepatic impairment
- Patients taking strong or moderate CYP2D6 inhibitors who are CYP2D6 poor or intermediate metabolizers
- Patients with severe renal impairment
