Erbitux 500mg Infusion

Erbitux (cetuximab) is a monoclonal antibody used to treat certain types of cancer. Each 500mg infusion of Erbitux is designed to target and bind to the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), which is present on the surface of some cancer cells. By binding to EGFR, Erbitux blocks the receptor’s activation, thereby inhibiting the growth and spread of cancer cells.

How It Works

Erbitux works by targeting EGFR, a protein that is overexpressed in various cancer cells. EGFR is involved in the regulation of cell growth, survival, proliferation, and differentiation. When Erbitux binds to EGFR, it blocks the receptor’s ability to bind to its natural ligands, preventing the activation of downstream signaling pathways that promote tumor growth and survival. Additionally, Erbitux can mediate antibody-dependent cellular cytotoxicity (ADCC), enhancing the immune system’s ability to attack cancer cells.

Indications

• Metastatic colorectal cancer with wild-type KRAS
• Locally advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck
• Recurrent or metastatic squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck

Contraindications

• Severe hypersensitivity to cetuximab or any of the excipients
• Known severe allergic reactions to proteins produced by mammalian cell cultures
