How It Works

Erythropoietin, also known as EPO, is a hormone produced by the kidneys that stimulates the production of red blood cells in the bone marrow. EPO helps regulate the body’s red blood cell production in response to low oxygen levels in the blood. EPOfer, which contains synthetic erythropoietin, works by mimicking the action of natural EPO. It stimulates the bone marrow to produce more red blood cells, increasing the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood.

Side Effects

  • High blood pressure
  • Headache
  • Joint or muscle pain
  • Flu-like symptoms (fever, chills)
  • Injection site reactions

  • EPOfer is indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD), chemotherapy-induced anemia, and anemia in patients with HIV infection.

  • Hypersensitivity to erythropoietin or any component of the formulation
  • Uncontrolled hypertension
  • Thrombotic events (e.g., stroke, heart attack)
  • Pure red cell aplasia (a rare disorder characterized by the absence of red blood cell precursors)
