How It Works
Lenalidomide is an immunomodulatory agent primarily used in the treatment of multiple myeloma and myelodysplastic syndromes. It works by altering the immune system and targeting cancer cells directly. Lenalidomide modulates the activity of the immune system by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cytokines, stimulating T-cells, and enhancing natural killer (NK) cell function. It also inhibits angiogenesis (the growth of new blood vessels in tumors) and induces apoptosis (programmed cell death) in cancer cells. Mechanisms:- Immunomodulation: Enhances the body’s immune response against cancer cells.
- Anti-angiogenesis: Restricts blood supply to the tumor, inhibiting its growth.
- Direct tumor cell inhibition: Promotes cell death and limits cell proliferation.
