Description
Mircera (methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta) is an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA) used to treat anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Each injection contains 50 micrograms of the active substance, which is a modified erythropoietin that stimulates the production of red blood cells.
How It Works
Mircera works by mimicking the natural hormone erythropoietin, which is produced by the kidneys and stimulates the bone marrow to produce red blood cells. Methoxy polyethylene glycol-epoetin beta has been chemically modified to have a longer half-life than endogenous erythropoietin, allowing for less frequent dosing. By stimulating red blood cell production, Mircera helps to increase the oxygen-carrying capacity of the blood, alleviating the symptoms of anemia such as fatigue and weakness.Indications
- Anemia associated with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in adult patients on dialysis
