Nuplazid (pimavanserin) is an atypical antipsychotic medication specifically approved for the treatment of hallucinations and delusions associated with Parkinson’s disease psychosis. Each tablet contains 17mg of pimavanserin, and a standard prescription includes 60 tablets.

How It Works

Pimavanserin works by selectively targeting and modulating serotonin receptors, specifically the 5-HT2A receptors. Unlike other antipsychotics, it does not significantly interact with dopamine receptors. This selectivity helps to manage the psychotic symptoms without exacerbating the motor symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. By blocking or inhibiting the 5-HT2A receptors, pimavanserin reduces the occurrence of hallucinations and delusions.
