Description
Sprycel (dasatinib) 50 mg (60 tablets) is a prescription medication used primarily in the treatment of certain types of cancer, particularly chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL). Dasatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI) that targets specific proteins involved in cancer cell growth and proliferation.
How It Works
Mechanism of Action
Sprycel (dasatinib) works by:- Inhibiting Tyrosine Kinases:
- Dasatinib specifically inhibits the BCR-ABL tyrosine kinase, which is produced by the Philadelphia chromosome and is responsible for the uncontrolled growth of cancer cells in chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).
- Blocking Multiple Kinases:
- In addition to BCR-ABL, dasatinib also inhibits several other tyrosine kinases involved in cell signaling pathways that regulate cancer cell growth, including Src family kinases, which contribute to cancer progression.
- Preventing Cell Division:
- By blocking these key signaling pathways, dasatinib interferes with the proliferation and survival of cancer cells, leading to their destruction and inhibiting tumor growth.
