Description

Vemlidy (tenofovir alafenamide) is an antiviral medication used to treat chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection in adults. Each film-coated tablet contains 25 mg of tenofovir alafenamide, which is a prodrug of tenofovir. Vemlidy is known for its improved safety profile compared to earlier forms of tenofovir, particularly in terms of kidney and bone toxicity.

How It Works

Tenofovir alafenamide is a prodrug that, once ingested, is converted in the body to tenofovir. Tenofovir is a nucleotide reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI) that inhibits the activity of reverse transcriptase, an enzyme crucial for the replication of the hepatitis B virus. By blocking this enzyme, tenofovir prevents the virus from multiplying and reduces the viral load in the blood. This helps to manage the infection and reduces liver damage caused by the virus.
